I have been a fan of the “300″ story since I was a kid.  Before Frank Miller’s award winning comic book series titled 300, there was 300 Spartans, a movie directed by Rudolph Mate and released in 1962.  300 Spartans was my first introduction to the story but it’s an ancient legend about 300 Spartan warriors that hold off an invading army of Persians that are more than 20 times their size.

Frank Miller did an amazing job with his Eisner award winning take on this story with the comic book series that was simply named, 300.  The series is now collected in a hard cover book and their is an upcoming movie based on it coming to theatres everywhere on March 9th.

 What more can a fan of the story ask for?  Well, if you are an action figure collector like me, you want toys, toys and more toys from this epic tale.  NECA’s first series of 300 action figures are set to be released in early February and from the pictures we have seen, they look pretty impressive.  They are based on the movie and the first series includes King Leonidas, Queen Gorgo, Immortal and Ephialtes.  Each one is packaged with accessories from the movie.  The suggested retail price is $14.99 but they are available at YouBuyNow.com for $12.99

NECA has released color photo’s of their new God of War action figures.  If you are a not a gamer, God of War is a popular (and damn fun) Playstation 2 game.  In the game, you play Kratos, a powerful warrior and leader was thought to be unstoppable.  During a fateful battle with a Barbarian tribe, Kratos’s army was decimated and Kratos was forced to call upon Ares, the God of War, for help.  But Ares got more than he bargained for from his pact with Kratos.

NECA is realeasing two figures, the first figure is Kratos and it is from the first God of War game.  It is highly articulated and comes with his famous Blades of Chaos as well as his flaming chains that the blades can be attached to.  The second figure is Kratos with Golden Fleece armor.  It is from the upcoming God of War 2 and it features a more serious head sculpt and comes with the blades of chaos and the head of Medusa.

 All in all, NECA’s products can be hit or miss.  We are either thrilled with them, or dissapointed in the sculpt and paint application.  From the pictures we have see, the Kratos figure looks top notch and we are excited to possibly see it up close at Toy Fair this year.

Diamond Select Toys has announced that it has acquired the license to create action figures for the sci-fi channel’s extremely popular Battlestar Galactica TV series.  This doesn’t come as a huge surprise as they have made 2 series of the Stargate SG-1 figures so far with some decent success.

Diamond has already produced Battlestar Galactica merchandise with their popular minimate line but this license will allow them to expand their Battlestar offerings.  With Majestic Studios creating 12″ figures for the series, we are assuming Diamond is going to make these figures for a 6″ line.
