DC Minimates Series 1

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

I love me the Minimates! I was very excited to get our first shipment of the first series of DC Minimates from DC Direct and Art Asylum today. My minimate shelf in the office is getting a bit crowded. But that can only mean one thing, I need to add another shelf. Monday, February 19th, 2007

After ToyBiz lost the license to make Marvel Legends figures to Hasbro, they re-invented themselves as Marvel Toys. Their first series of figures in their new Legendary Heroes line includes legendary comic book heroes outside of the Marvel universe. Series 1 includes Judge Dredd with Timmy, Rip Claw, Super Patriot, Madman, Savage Dragon and Witchblade. If you purchase all 6 figures, you can build a massive Pitt figure.

We have added the Legendary Heroes line to our site and made them available for pre-order. Check them out at http://www.youbuynow.com/category/Legendary_Heroes

Ghost Rider has strong opening weekend

Monday, February 19th, 2007

The Ghost Rider movie, starring Nicholas Cage, debuted as the number 1 movie at the box office for President’s day weekend. The three-day total is estimated at $44.5 million. It mirrors the debut weekend of another Marvel movie, Daredevil, which earned just over $40 million over Presidents day weekend in 2003. Daredevil was hammered pretty hard by the critics and the movie quickly fizzeled out in theatres.

With Ghost Rider, they did not allow critics to review the movie before it’s regular opening weekend. So, the question is, will Ghost Rider be able to sustain strong numbers or will it fizzle out as the critics get their hands on it?

Personally, I really liked Daredevil. It wasn’t my favorite Marvel movie but I thought they did a great job on it. The critics response to the film didn’t surprise me but I was surprised at how many fans of the genre hated it. I haven’t seen Ghost Rider yet but I have been hearing some mixed reviews from fans that went over the weekend. Will Ghost Rider be a hit, or another dissappointing movie for the Marvel fanbase?
